We often talk about the importance of your business’s blog here on Medium. These are essential for improving your SEO. But if you have a blog, you regularly post to it, and you make sure that each post provides some important answers potential customers might like to see, what more can you do to optimize your website for search engines?

There are a few areas to focus when writing each blog post to make them even more attractive for SEO. Many of these are simply incorporated into your writing, and all are done on the front end without needing any technical knowledge.

How to Make Your Blog Posts SEO Friendly

Blog posts are great for content based SEO. The new content, so long as it is well written, makes your entire website more relevant. For this reason, writing the blog posts should be your focus before you worry about SEO tricks. Yet if you’ve already got a regular posting routine, these tips can help your blog make a bigger impact:

  • Find Keywords — A keyword is a word or phrase that someone is likely to search for in when trying to find answers about your topic. You are probably already using some keywords naturally, but try to think of additional ones or use a keyword research tool to find more.
  • Add Keywords to Text — As you are writing your post, keep those keywords in mind and add them where relevant. You can place them in titles and body content, just make sure you’re not “keyword stuffing,” or adding keywords in ways that hinder the readability. This can result in penalizations.
  • Link to Other Sites — Consider referencing other websites if it helps make your point. It can make your blog a stronger resource for customers and might get you incoming links in return.
  • Share Your Posts to Social Media — Putting links to your blog posts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and others is an easy way to stay active on social media without needing to come up with more content.

Other marketers will sometimes mention strategies like bolding keywords, filling the headers with keywords, avoiding contractions, or hitting an exact word count. But Deimira Paa Baidoo of Melcom Group LTD has never seen any evidence that this matters, and that it will have little if any impact on your SEO. Bold keywords if you like the look, use contractions if they fit your voice, and aim for a word count that describes your topic without boring your readers. Longer is always better, but that length has to be genuine.

Also remember that these tips are additional methods, not quick tricks. The foundation of your website’s SEO still depends on content.
